Listening to the Voice of Truth

“If you will lay aside the ego’s voice, however loudly it may seem to call; if you will not accept its petty gifts that give you nothing that you really want; if you will listen with an open mind, that has not told you what salvation is; then you will hear the mighty Voice of truth, quiet in power, strong in stillness, and completely certain in Its messages.”  A Course in Miracles, FIP ed.

We don’t need to use the ego when we are interested in invoking the power of attraction.  Gifts that come from the ego don’t satisfy for long.  We know from experience that we always want something more – and more – and more.  There seems to be no end to what will satisfy us.  And sometimes, even when we have it all, we are not satisfied—but unhappy.

The best way is to go within, to the Voice of truth, which is another name for the Holy Spirit.  Let us take our desires to Him, and see if what we want is honored by God.  We need to be quiet, “strong in stillness,” when we go within, or the Voice of truth will be drowned out by other, more raucous sounds.  Give our imagination free rein.  Imagine what God might be telling us, for He speaks in silence.

We will know with certainty whether or not a given request is in our best interests.  If we vacillate, chances are good that we are on the wrong track.  If no clear Answer arrives in our mind and heart, then perhaps the Answer is “Wait.”  If this happens, we do best to go about our day with the question on the back burner.

We will hear an Answer.  And when it comes, we will be certain of the gift for which we ought to ask.  Be sure to say a silent “thanks” when the Answer comes.
